You’re ready to begin the search for you dream home. Maybe you know exactly what you want.  Maybe you’re unsure and looking for guidance. Most likely, you’re somewhere in between. Wherever you are, the right buyer’s agent will meet you there and walk with you the rest of the way. So… how do you know when you’ve found the right buyer’s agent? By asking the right questions!

1 Are you a Realtor? Realtors bring experience, education, and ethics to the table. 2 What services do you offer? Most agents will have a long list of all they do for buyers to facilitate a transaction. 3 How well do you know the local market? The ideal agent will be know the ins-and-outs of the area or areas you are considering. 4 Do you have experience with buyers like me? Agents may specialize in working with different types of buyers - first time home owners, veterans, etc. 5 Tell me what to expect in the home-buying process. A knowledgeable agent will be able to clearly and concisely communicate everything that you should expect. 6 What will the written buyer agreement include? Before signing anything, you’ll want to be sure you understand completely what is being agreed to. 7 How long will we work together? When will the agent begin work, and how long can you count on their assistance? 8 What do you charge and how will you be paid? You have the right to negotiate this amount, so make sure it is something everyone is comfortable with. 9 Can you provide recommendations for other professionals? An experienced agent will be familiar with reputable, local lenders, contractors, and other service providers. 10 Do you have references? Don’t pass up the opportunity to speak with other buyers who have first-hand experience with an agent. Bottom Line Finding the right buyer’s agent is a vital part of the process and shouldn’t be rushed.  You want to be comfortable and confident that you have chosen the best possible partner in your search. But that doesn’t mean finding that partner has to be difficult. By asking the right questions, you can be sure you have made the right choice.
